The deputy chairman of the government of the Karachay-Cherkessia Republic has been placed under house arrest. That was the court’s decision. She is accused of embezzlement of more than 100 million rubles, allocated from the budget for the purchase of medicines and medical equipment.
As the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk reported earlier, the FSB together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs managed to suppress the activities of an organized criminal community. According to preliminary data, it consisted of employees and managers of the republican clinical hospital, as well as individual entrepreneurs.
A total of seven people were detained in the criminal case. Including the deputy chairman of the Karachaevo-Cherkessian government. Although the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not name names, according to the agencies, this deputy prime minister was Irina Gerbekova.
According to the investigation, the group specialised in the embezzlement of funds from the federal budget in especially large amounts, allocated under the state health care development programme. This included the purchase of medicines, medical equipment, as well as the payment of salaries to medical workers.
“In the course of searches at their residence addresses, large amounts of money were seized. Investigative measures and urgent investigative actions continue”, – said the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia Irina Volk.
