The attack took place in the province of Cabo Delgado. Elephants attacked a group of farmers and their relatives who were harvesting crops in a field. After the aggressive animals appeared, the people ran away, and when they returned they found the bodies of the dead, among them a woman and two children. They had moved from another village shortly before their deaths.
Law enforcement spokesman Mario Adolfo stated that the people were killed as a result of a “human-wildlife conflict.” He also noted that it did not happen on the territory of the reserve.
