Rising to Leadership at Cambodia’s Central Bank | Director-General Serey Chea
Polin Lim
Serey Chea started from the bottom as a fresh graduate, before rising over the years through the ranks to be appointed the Director-General and Assistant Governor of the central bank of Cambodia. She shares candidly what it has been like for her to have to prove herself to the world and to break away from her father’s shadow. When asked for her recipe to leadership success, she points out, “there’s no substitute for blood and sweat.”
If you’re a woman in management, you would want to hear Serey’s experience about managing a team of men. What works for her? Does sexist prejudice happen even to her at the highest levels of leadership? How does she deal with it?
Serey also shares anecdotes from her outstanding academic history. A senior fellow of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and holding a Ph.D. degree with the University of Adelaide (Australia), she has studied in France, the University of Wellington, Sydney Universtiy, Oxford and Harvard. Be inspired by how she juggled postgraduate studies at some of the world’s leading schools even while pregnant.
WHO IS SEREY CHEA?
An economist and a trained accountant, Serey is also the chairwoman of the Credit Bureau Cambodia Ltd., the first and only privately run credit sharing system in Cambodia.
